SCALLOPED EDGE BASKET
A fun decorate cotton basket, perfect for storage or as a decoration in your home. This can be made in any size and colour of your choice. Simply increase/decrease the shape as you please. Make the pattern your own!
MATERIALS:
- 100g of Aran/10ply 100% cotton yarn in a beautiful colour of your choice (this may change depending on size you create)
- 5mm Crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Ruler or tape measure
STITCHES AND ABBREVIATIONS:
Ch=Chain
HDC=Half Double Crochet
Sl st=Slip Stitch
St(s)=Stitches
Rep=Repeat
SC=Single Crochet
PATTERN:
BASE:
FOUNDATION CHAIN: Ch1
ROW 1: HDC 6 times into the 1Ch
ROW 2 - 3: Ch 1, HDC 2 times into each St, at end Sl st into first St
ROW 4 - 7: Ch1, HDC into first 3 St(s), HDC 2 times into 4th St, Rep all the way around, at end Sl st into first St
(to make a bigger basket keep repeating ROW 4 until you have the diameter you would like. The larger basket I created in my photos goes up to ROW 9 before I create the edge of the basket)
EDGES:
ROW 8 - 12: Ch 1, HDC into all St(s), at end Sl st into first St
ROW 13: Ch 1, HDC 5 times into next stitch, skip 1 St, SC, skip 1 St, Rep all the way around, at end Sl st into first St
Ch 2 to fasten off and pull yarn through
Weave in all your ends with needle
I also love to use a bit of steam from the iron to make the basket look beautiful and finished.
